Happy Holidays ^__^

As much as my family does not celebrate Christmas as such, its just such a jolly time of the year! (except for the fact it is raining bucketloads right now, and I nearly died driving home from work)

This year is special because for the first time, I'm actually gonna be celebrating it like a real Christmas at a friend's for lunch/dinner. It was so great of her to invite me for what I gather is generally only a family thing. RUB YOU RONG TIME xo

So I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and eat lots of yummy food :)

Onwards to the nail post-

I've always liked cream-finish brown/grey/beige/taupe nail polish, but lately I'm drawn to glittery polishes. This one is a combination of both, in that it is a taupe glittery polish; Revlon's Ornate Ore.

I really wanted to capture the multicoloured fine glitter, but the best I could come up with is this, which just looks like silver and gold glitter (if even that). It has really TINY sized glitter, so even with one coat there is no grittiness although not opaque. Three coats for full opacity, it was quite runny (but easy to apply) and dried quickly. The colour looks different depending on the light which I love ^__^

Long time no nail post

Thought I'd do a quick nail post! Here it is:

Products used:
Manicare Ridge Filler as a base coat - it doesn't actually fill any ridges, just kinda smooths out the surface

Inglot 319 - love the colour of this, but it is too streaky for me. Dries quickly though!

Revlon Lush Lime - wanted to have lime glitter, but the glitter in this polish is really sparse/transparent, so it just looks like random bubbles on my nails

Etude House Mini French 06 French Silver Glitter - got bored of plain lime green after a couple of hours, so added silver! I can't apply this very neatly, so it resulted in a messy blob of silver.

Seche Vite Top Coat- no further explanation required.

Smokey Eye MAC Technique Seminar

Seminar makes it sound so fancy, but that is the full title of it. On 15th of Dec Wednesday night, I went to a smokey eye lesson at MAC with the Kraken (I know you're reading this, yes I took photos and I'm posting it like you told me to!)

As I've mentioned it in a previous post, I was super excited for it: A 2-hour lesson from MAC makeup artists followed by getting $120 worth of MAC products!! AND THERE WAS FOOD. (pretty much the most exciting thing yes?)

The lesson consisted of a mua applying makeup on another mua, while we followed step by step. Wish I had taken my camera there, but I went straight from being stuck in labs all day so I didn't think that far ==;;

We learned the basics of prepping the skin, applying foundation/concealer then moved on to the eyeshadow. The products used for the eyes were Painterly Paint Pot as a base, White Rabbit, Melt My Heart and Carbon eyeshadows from the Reelers & Rockers palette, and one of the mascaras (I wasn't told which one). On the face, there was a bronzer (dunno which one), Melba blush followed by Viva Glam V lipstick.

I've cropped/resized and adjusted brightness of the photos, but haven't touched anything else (because I don't know how to do that).

Excuse the clump of mascara and the two eyes being uneven. I'm just gonna pretend its because of the angle the photo was taken. These two photos were taken with flash, because I couldn't get the colour to show without flash.

The next day/night when I got home, I wanted to try it again so I don't forget what I learned. I used matte neutrals, which I am more likely to use than shimmery metallics. Here is the failcake I baked.
I really suck at blending clearly. I tried, but all I see are three splodges of colour. Damnit.

Probably the only Christmas present I'm getting this year

My family doesn't celebrate Christmas, because my dad is an atheist. Despite my mum being Christian, what my dad says goes (or so he thinks) therefore we've always just spent Christmas day like any other summer (Australia here!) day. I'm the only one who puts up a tree, decorates it and places gifts under it, but this year I was super lazy and didn't get around to putting up the tree.

So the point of today's post is this:
My bosses at work are AMAZING!! They got EVERYONE at work these gift bags filled with beauty products and lollies (and an envelope with money! REAL money!) as well as nice snacks for morning tea. In the photo there isn't very much junk food left because I ate most of it already xD The big/full size products are Australian: A'kin, Ulittlebeauty, derm organics and Natio. The lipglosses are L'oreal and Sally Hansen. There is a loose powder and eyeshadow from freshMinerals, and a clear nail polish from Sally Hansen. The other things are little samples to try.

When I looked through the products again though, I couldn't help wondering whether they're trying to tell me something or it is merely a coincidence. The lipglosses are nude/neutral, and I'm wondering whether they want me to stop wearing orange/pink lipsticks. The clear nail polish may be suggesting to stop with my colourful nails. But then I could be overthinking it (as I always seem to do).

Anyway, it was such a nice gesture and now I'm wondering what I can get for them to return the gesture. Ideas?

ps. sorry about the CAPS everywhere. I get excited easily.

My first successful nail polish sale :)

On Thursday, I sold my first bottle of nail polish because a lady noticed them on my nails! Lately I've been trying to wear brands we stock at work just so when customers ask I can refer them to the product. So I was wearing Maybelline mini Colorama in 30 Bubblegum and a lady asked what it is! I told her its Maybelline, then she went and brought two shades to purchase. It wasn't much but I was so proud to have sold something from what is just a hobby/obsession of mine :)

These photos were taken on the third day of wear, so there is a bit of tipwear but overall I think it wears pretty well! Two coats here with both base and top coats. In real life it is pinker than it looks in the photos, but I couldn't get my camera to show the true colour.

I've got two bottles of this polish because the first one started to become thick, but I still use the thick one (until I buy thinner). The new bottle however is a great consistency, not too runny but not too thick. It also dries fairly quickly.

I love these mini Colorama polishes because they're just SO CUTE! (also apply well too) And they were on sale the other week so my mum went and bought pretty much all the shades she likes.

Here are the links I was asked for:

This is where I bought the Orly, China Glaze, Essie and Zoya polishes (they also have OPI, and other brands) http://myworld.ebay.com.au/lacquerme/

And here is the English site of where I buy all my Korean cosmetics such as Etude House and Peripera (I shop on the Korean site, but I think this should be roughly the same) http://english.gmarket.co.kr/

Yes, I am a lazy shit.

I have been doing my nails every 3 days or so as per usual, but I'm too lazy to take photos. Plus I've been trying out the new polishes I got on eBay, and there a ton of swatches for them online already! (excuses, excuses) BUT DID ANYONE ACTUALLY MISS ME? I think not. *cries*

So here are the swatches for the day. These are Peripera Wonder of Lips lipsticks. On the left is 8 퓨어핑크 (Pure Pink) and on the right is 20 츄잉오렌지 (Chewing Orange). I wanted a Barbie pink lipstick as well as a bright orange one, so when I saw these on sale I just HAD to get them!

The formula is glossy and not drying, but not the most opaque. (three layers for the swatch above) Similar to MAC lustre finish lipsticks. I personally like and prefer MAC lustre finish lipsticks, so I like these Peripera lipsticks. The pink one is glossier with sparkles in it, which I don't like, but you can't even see the sparkles once on the lips. The orange one is creamy and more opaque than the pink.

So overall, I like these lipsticks and would like to try out more shades in the future.
[But not too soon, because I'm on a lipstick ban at the moment.]

Oh no! A smudge!

So here I was, painting my nails away as I do on a quiet night in... and I smudged my polish before it dried. I do this quite often, and generally I redo. But on this occasion I had repainted my nails about three times (because the first shade was too streaky - I'm looking at you Lemon Fizz! - and the second shade was not shiny enough - Galaxy Girl), and did not feel like redoing them again.

When I smudge my nails and I'm too lazy to redo, I use my handy little nail stickers. So this was my long-winded way of explaining why I have flowers on my thumbnail. To the review...

Rimmel I Love Lasting Finish 198 Azure:

I bought this on sale a while ago, but haven't had the time to swatch it. With exams over, I wanted to wear a bright colour, so this seemed suitable.

This polish is slightly runny but only required two coats for opacity. It comes with a flat brush, which depending on preferences may/may not be a good thing. But this brush is nowhere near as fat/flat as the Xpress 1 sec brush by Rimmel.

The colour in real life is slightly darker than in the photos, but I guess that depends on the light too. It has tiny shimmers, and is a bright blue with very slight teal leanings. "Azure" refers to the colour of the bright clear blue sky, and I think naming the shade as such is misleading because the shade of this polish is darker.

It dries quickly (but then I used Seche Vite topcoat, so this could have sped up the process), and hasn't chipped in two full days (but again, Seche Vite).

p.s. So much for not wearing bright coloured nail polish to work. I wore this to work on Monday and no-one mentioned anything. Ahahaha all the stress and removing nail polish before work for NOTHING! I'll be wearing any colour I want to work from now on (until they tell me off).

Online shopping addiction haul

Long time no post! Exams are over, and now I have more time to dedicate to stalking online :)

Through study week and exams, I have been rather addicted to online shopping. It's not that I'm buying too many things (or maybe I am), its more that I waste so much time on staring at everything and not buy much (how I wasted pretty much half of my "study" time during exams) It is definitely a problem, and from now on I will not allow myself to waste so much time.

But the feeling you get when packages arrive... nothing can beat that!

So the first lot that arrived was MAC stuff during the study week. I bought My Highland Honey blush and Black Line Pearlglide from the A Tartan Tale collection (but haven't taken photos). I'm in love with Black Line, but have found a few cheaper dupes online and am quite unhappy I didn't find the dupes before I bought the MAC. Oh well, I love it nonetheless.

Then, in the last week of exams I received my long-awaited nail polishes. I ordered on the 22nd Oct, and received it 15th Nov so it took a while. But it felt like a reward for getting through exams (6 polishes for 6 exams)!
From L-R: China Glaze Lemon Fizz, Orly Space Cadet, Essie Mint Candy Apple, Zoya Adina, Orly Galaxy Girl, Seche Vite Top Coat. (I was ecstatic to try Space Cadet and Galaxy Girl, because I missed out on the polished from MAC Venomous Villains collection. I'm in love with Space Cadet, and am proud to say it is now my favourite polish of all time!)

And last but not least, today I received my Benefit order:
Ordered this on the 29th of Oct and received it 23rd of Nov, so delivery definitely took a LONGGGG time. So from the top clockwise, Beauty Wonderland, Confessions of a Concealaholic, D'finer D'liner, Pocket Pal and samples (Hello Flawless in Champagne and High Beam). I have never tried any Benefit cosmetics before, so I am super pleased to try out my newest arrivals. I swatched Some Kinda Gorgeous (which is in the Beauty Wonderland package), and it seems to match my skintone.

So here it is. What I purchased online over the past month! Actually there are other things, but let's keep it at that so I feel less guilty about spending all the money I've earnt.

OOOH! Exciting news: I'm doing a MAC Techniques lesson on Smokey Eyes on 15th of December. It was $120AUD to book, but redeemable on product. SOOOOOOO looking forward to it :D

Mmm jelly beans... sweet glucose power for the brain

I've been studying for the past week or so (with lots of procrastination in between), and I am officially going to hide in a hole until my exams are finished. The sugary goodness of jelly beans have been helping a lot with staying up late!

While I was munching(?) away, I was randomly reminded of my Chi Chi polish set. So I decided to take a break (or waste some time, which ever way you look at it) and take pictures with my new camera. I will do a swatch post once exams are over and I have some free time.

See you on the other side!!

Khaki is the new black

It's been over 2 weeks since my last post! I've been off the face of the earth doing assignments and presentations, and will have to continue focusing on study for my end-of-semester exams. Onwards to my pretty...

I saw this polish at a little clothing boutique in early August, so before Chanel's collection was released. I didn't purchase it when I first saw this polish, but when I went there after a week it was sold out! I've been lemming it ever since and continued visiting the store every 2 weeks or so. FINALLY, I got my hands on it this Friday.

I haven't got Chanel's Khaki Vert so I can't compare the two, but from looking at online swatches, this polish is slightly greener. All the swatches online look different, so I can't be sure.

I tried to take the photos in different light to show a true representation of the colour. The polish itself looks different depending on the light so I can't pick which picture is the best representation... but I'd say the middle pic is the best.

So this polish is a creamy khaki, applies pretty well and dries relatively quickly. Two coats for opacity as in the pictures, but if you look at my index finger, its started to chip. After one day of wear. NOT impressed! But that might be because I didn't apply a topcoat this time round. I have to remove it before going to work anyway, so tis okay.

Self-control for MAC Venomous Villains collection

Here in Australia we are one step behind in the release of new collections...

So, the long-awaited Venomous Villains was released on Monday 4th of October (which is actually quite quick since normally it takes about 2-3 weeks or so). Viva Glam Cyndi and Gaga lipglasses were also only released on the same day (like a month after it was released in the US)!

My original list of items for VV consisted of Bite of an Apple blush, Her Own Devices beauty powder, Wicked ways lipglass, Revenge is Sweet lipglass and Strange Potion lipglass. Also I wanted to get the Viva Glam Cyndi lipglass. The lipsticks and eyeshadows in VV are too in-your-face for me to wear :S

After countless hours of staring at blogs however, I decided to remove Bite of an Apple and Strange Potion off my list. Bite of an Apple is too red for my already reddish cheeks, and Strange Potion is too similar to Jazzed lipstick which I own.

I called up the MAC counter on Sunday and asked to put Cyndi, HOD, WW and RIS on hold, which they did but I was told it would only be until Monday night. I couldn't make my way there yesterday, so I called up today to see whether they were still holding them for me - luckily they were!

So today I rocked up to my "local" MAC counter - by "local" I mean its actually 45 minute train ride away (come on what do you expect in Australia) - tonight to pick up my pretties :)

When I got there and swatched away like a madwoman, Bite of an Apple was indeed too red for me and Strange Potion was too similar to Jazzed which I happened to be wearing tonight. WW, although looks like a lovely cherry red in the tube (and on everyone else), screams fuchsia on my lips. Although a pretty colour on its own right I was after a red gloss so I restrained myself from getting WW. I only tried one brush stroke of HOD on my cheek, and it seemed like with a few more sweeps it would be a good natural blush. RIS is such a gorgeous colour, I didn't even try it on my lips!

The sold-out items when I got there: Bite of an Apple, Heartless and all the nail lacquers. I was surprised to see Strange Potion and Violetta were still there, because I thought they would be gone quickly - since they are such gorgeous colours.

There is my rant for the day - out of this huge collection, I managed to only purchase Revenge is Sweet and Her Own Devices + Cyndi lipglass. But with the crazy marked-up prices here, I bet I spent about the same money as most other girls in the US/Canada.

Trailer Trash

No, I'm not referring to anyone in particular. That is the name of the shade of this polish:

Chi Chi Trailer Trash. Funny how the name of this shade is Trailer Trash, because my mum hates this on me. She says it looks cheap haha. (she is so so kind to me)

Two coats for opacity, and the colour stays true to the bottle. Although in the bottle there is a pretty pink/purple sheen, once applied on nails its more of a slightly shimmery coral red. This shade is runnier than other Chi Chi polishes, and dries faster too. Still easy to apply and not streaky at all.

NB. I thought Chi Chi nail polishes were THE perfect consistency. A friend has pointed out that they are actually thicker than other polishes, so maybe its a personal preference thing. For me Chi Chi polishes are perfect ><"

Random whinge:
I'm going CRAZY not being able to wear colour on my nails because of work! UGGHHHHH

Glittery Golden Ball

Long time no post! Uni and work is getting/is hectic. I used to have so much time to bum around, but not anymore since its near the end of the semester and I started working. BUT at least I now have more money so spend on more pretties :)

So I went to a ball last Saturday and the theme was gold. I pretty much own no gold things, so I purchased a cheap gold nail polish and tried to do gold eye shadow. Needless to say, I failed miserably in the eye shadow department. So the only gold thing I had was my nails (even so, it was dark and noone could see them). At least I was happy right?

Here it is: Ulta3 Gold Digger. It was just a mass of glittery goop, I had to apply 4 coats for it to cover most of my bare nails. Such a pain to remove too even though I applied it over nude polish. In saying that, I think it would look great over a dark polish though. Not much to review, the colour is pretty much the same as the picture and application was horrible (but then what do you expect from glitter in a bottle?).

I do, I do, I do

I do... HAVE A JOB NOW! I didn't paint my nails this colour for a job interview, it was because I was doing some unpaid work/work experience on Monday. As I was leaving to go home, I had missed calls on my phone so naturally I called back. It was for a job interview *woot* So I drove home hurriedly, got changed and went to the interview... and ta da, I have a job now xD

Enough about that, here is the shade that got me the job: Chi Chi- I do, I do, I do
N.B. Excuse my cuticles, both bottles of my cuticle oil seem to have grown some microorganisms. (Ewww cloudy looking stuff)

As I will say again and again for EVERY Chi Chi polish I own, perfect application. Maybe its personal preference, since my mum was whinging about this one being difficult to apply. I showed her real good. It is a gorgeous creamy light peach colour - similar to Revlon's famous Peach Petal lipgloss. Here I applied two coats with base and top coat. Doesn't apply streaky, but dries a little slow compared to other Chi Chi polishes.

The colour it applies is true to the bottle, as in the above picture. The colour in real life is pretty close to the picture also. I love how they name the shades. So adorable.

Grey skies, blue skies.

Long time no post! Went on a weekend getaway and uni is getting hectic. Gahhh... For my holiday, I had orange-ish fingernails and emerald-ish toenails but I forgot to take photos before they got chipped and ugry. Maybe next time xD

So here is what I bought this Monday: BYS Nail Enamel Shadow PuppetsI've always wanted a grey nail polish, but always got distracted by other pretty colours.. But this one I HAD to get, because it has a tinge of lavender! *drools* So loving the colour, creamy light grey with a tinge of lavender.
Hmm can you see the imprints on my index and middle fingernail..? It clearly required more time to dry before I went to bed. So not a quick drier. After the photo I applied another coat to hide the imprints. Since it is a runny, not-so-opaque colour, three coats were required for opacity. Though its runny, it isn't streaky which is great. At the end of three days there was tipwear, but I change my nail colour often so it doesn't matter too much. This was the first BYS nail polish I tried, and I am pleased with this formula overall (for the price of $4 AUD and because there is a HUGE selection of colours). I will need to try out more of these.
NB. Smells horrid though, worse than other nail polishes I own. I know nail polish generally is not pleasantly fragranced, but this one smells like death even on my nails after it has dried.

After having grey nails for three days, I felt a little gloomy. So I decided to go for a sky blue: Chi Chi Mermaid. Well not sky blue, this has a tinge of green but still a pretty blue. I always tend to crawl back to Chi Chi nail polishes for some reason or another, and they never let me down both in terms of colour and formula.
This is one of the first few polishes of Chi Chi I purchased, so the bottle is the old design with no ingredients written on the back...All it has on the back is "quick thick nail fix MERMAID".
The colour is quite well represented by the photos, though the photo doesn't capture the fine silver shimmery metallic side of the polish. Because it is metallic, Mermaid is a little streaky in comparison to other creamy Chi Chi polishes. Consistency is also a little more runny than creamy Chi Chi colours, but still great application - not too runny, not too thick. Two coats for opacity here, and dries faster than the BYS above. Also, no tipwear yet on second day of wear :)

Oooh, shiny!

Prorance Finish Water Glow M13 Highlighter is all round shiny from the packaging to the contents. Makes me squeal like a piglet. Look at it. Isn't it gorgeous?
Comes with a brush which is not a horrible quality but you'd probably be better off using another brush.

Swatched with my finger,

Swatched using the brush provided. Can't really see the shimmer, but there was specks of shimmer everywhere on my arm!

The shiny particles (shimmer?) are quite small, and not chunky. I think this would be a great every day highlighter, if I was to wear highlighter daily myself. I tend to stay away from shimmery products for daily wear because they always ends up ALL over my face.

FunnyFace Beauty: I Dare You to Wear

FunnyFace Beauty challenged her subscribers to recreate this look, from from the Derek Lam 2010 Spring fashion show:

Originally I was all "I don't have time to try this look", but I really wanted to try. So I am ignoring my 5000 word assignment... I only did half a face, because I can never get both eyes to look the same unfortunately. So here is a bathroom faceshot (first face shot EVAR!):
I know I am epic fail at blending and applying eye shadow, but this is the first look with more than one bright colour I've ever done! I tried to get the closest to the colours in the pic, but it doesn't look right. I don't know why I have no eyelashes there, since I went crazy with my curler and mascara. Also I put on a heck lot of orange blush, don't know where that disappeared to as well.

Suggestions for improvements would be greatly appreciated!

Inglot Haul + Swatches

A little birdie told me the local Inglot store was having a 30% off closing down sale, so I couldn't resist but to go and make unnecessary purchases. But everything is oh so pretty.

Took a lot of willpower I must admit, but I only bought a Freedom System palette and one nail polish.

The palette has room for four shadows and one blush. Shadows (all shimmery): 473 (light blue green), 68 (dark blue), 471 (khaki), 27 (gold)
Blush: 52 (matte brown orange)

From left: 27, 471, 68, 473, 52. Swatched on my bare arm with my fingers.

As you can see in the above picture, the gold shadow has a different finish compared to the other three shadows. The others are more matte with shimmer whereas the gold is satin with shimmer? I have no idea how to describe shadows, so that is all I can say really. The colour swatched is true to the colour in the pan, which is great. The khaki is sooooo pretty, the picture doesn't do justice. I'm crap at applying eye shadow but it makes me so happy to just stare at them and swatch them XD

The blush has really high colour payoff, I had no idea and looked like I was going through menopause. Oops. On my cheeks it looks pinky for some reason.

Nail polish: 834 (metallic purple)
I only own one other Inglot polish, and from these two I came to the conclusion I don't like Inglot polishes very much. The other one I own is also a metallic finish, which may be why I don't like it since they show stroke marks. Or it could just be because I'm bad at applying it. I need to try a creamy finish then I'll be sure whether I like them or not.

The polish is quite thin, which also adds to the difficulty in application. Though it has a high shine metallic finish as in the picture above, which looks great. So-so opacity, had to apply three coats for this (also to even out patchy areas) and wait for it to dry... not a slow drier but not fast either. Overall love the colour, not so much the formula.

On The Prowl with an updated blog name

You might be thinking "WTF". I decided to change the url and name of my blog to better reflect myself and the content of the blog. Did you know crouching for an extended period is something that has to be learned growing up? SilhouetteScreams pointed it out to me. I crouch with ease for example to pick up something from the ground but my friends find it more difficult. By "crouching" I'm referring to this position -->That is me in the picture in my high school jersey. Oh yes we had a random reunion in our jerseys and stuffed our faces with food. Twas glorious. Now on to the nail polish...

On The Prowl by Chi Chi:
This would have to be shoulder-to-shoulder with my favourite nail polish Hollywood Heiress. As with all Chi Chi nail polishes I've tried, great application and opacity. In the picture below I applied two coats. with base and top coat. Unlike the Etude House polishes from the previous post, Chi Chi polishes come out to the exact colour of the bottle AND do not chip easily. Proudly Australian made and owned!
Now describing the colour is more of an issue. As much as I love this colour I have no idea how to describe it. Pinky-purple? Purple-pink? Orchid? Fuchsia? The colour in real life is in between the two pictures above. I couldn't capture the exact colour so I took one photo under direct natural light and one under shadowed natural light.

I saw a light khaki nail polish while window shopping yesterday. Should I get it or would it be horrendous?

Wednesday, August 11, 2010

Don't you dare start chipping on me on the first day of wear!

Oh yes. These two started chipping on the first day of wear. Even with a base coat and top coat. *twitchy eye*

Etude House nail polishes are super cheap, so I suppose I shouldn't have had such high expectations. BUT the GR601 Pop Green Slush was great and lasted three days without chipping or peeling. So Etude House nail polishes are kinda a hit-and-miss I suppose. The two here are PK004 Pink Salmon, and BR301 Red Tea Milk. I was confused with their colour-coding, because PK should be pink and BR should be brown...these two may need swapping around.

Etude House PK004 Pink Salmon:
I don't know where they got "salmon" out of this colour. I don't have any other colours like this one so I can't give a comparison. The photo is pretty close to what it looks like in real life. I think its a nice sophisticated pinky-brown, a little like a typical MLBB lipstick shade. Here I applied three coats, because I had missed some patches (Note to self: don't apply nail polish in the dark while watching TV). One coat was a sheer natural colour, but it was a little streaky. Applies pretty well, not too runny but not gluggy. Oh but the CHIPPING. The next morning I found a chip. How did I chip it while sleeping I am unsure, but it did.

Etude House
BR301 Red Tea Milk:
The name of this shade is perfect. Red tea milk. I love this colour, in real life it is more a mute milky browny-pink. Applies brighter than the bottle and is a similar consistency to the PK004 above - not too runny, not too gluggy. Two coats in this picture, but one coat seemed pretty good too. Sheerer than this obviously but still a nice colour without streaks. This one peeled/chipped the next afternoon, I applied it at night so within 24 hours of application.

Do dry hands cause chipping?
