Oh what a crappy day... let's make it better with a holo topcoat!

I've had a horrendous day today (or yesterday, since it rolled over midnight):

Woke up early to make it in time for a meeting with my supervisor,
spent 50 minutes on the train,
the transfer train was 10 minutes late,
my supervisor didn't turn up for an hour,
I texted him and he replied "be there soon",
waited another THREE HOURS (starved myself in the process in case he turned up while I was gone to get food)
he rocks up then runs off to god knows where,
FINALLY got to speak to him and plan the rest of my project for a good 3 hours,
checked my email...
WTF MY TUTORIAL GROUP HAS BEEN CHANGED TO THE CRAPPIEST ONE AVAILABLE

Ahh. Hating life right now. Have to re-arrange work and whatnot. Why the hell did I wake up at 5:45am to sign-on to classes if they are going to kick me out because they feel like it?

Enough with the ranting, I'll get to the pretty holo.

The holo topcoat is CoverGirl Boundless Color 430 City Lights. The particles are very fine, and one thick coat does the job shown in this picture. The picture doesn't do it justice. SO. MANY. SPARKLES. *drools uncontrollably* When I first got this, I put it over everything. Then realised it doesn't particularly look good over yellow/orange polishes. City Lights dries pretty quickly, and feels less gritty than some glittery topcoats, just because the particles are so fine. I also think this topcoat also makes the manicure last longer. And underneath the topcoat, I'm wearing:

This here, Scandal 5863 Sky Blue, I picked up over a year ago in Korea, just because the bottle was unique (and the colour is unique too!). Three coats for opacity, the formula is a tad runny and it is prone to brush stroke marks but I just love the colour of it. Even though its called Sky Blue, I think it is far from it. If the sky was this colour I'd stare at it all day!

In my next post, I'll do a comparison post of this holo with a recently discovered holo.

Guess who's back, back again...

OH HAI!

Originally, I stopped updating because of the floods in Queensland. Then I was stuck in a polish rut, where I felt everything looked ugly on my nails. Recently I've been super busy, and just plain too lazy to keep up with blogposts.

As part of my on-course honours program, I have to spend pretty much the entire summer holidays in the lab. I don't even get to blow things up or do anything cool, just sit at this boring machine:
I know, exciting right? :

The main issue with labwork is washing up glassware using acetone. ACETONE! Which needless to say, greatly shortens the lifespan of my manicures. I've still got just over a month of labwork to do, but I decided I can't keep using that as an excuse.

So in summary, I'm back and shall try to update regularly!

Self-control for MAC Venomous Villains collection

Here in Australia we are one step behind in the release of new collections...

So, the long-awaited Venomous Villains was released on Monday 4th of October (which is actually quite quick since normally it takes about 2-3 weeks or so). Viva Glam Cyndi and Gaga lipglasses were also only released on the same day (like a month after it was released in the US)!

My original list of items for VV consisted of Bite of an Apple blush, Her Own Devices beauty powder, Wicked ways lipglass, Revenge is Sweet lipglass and Strange Potion lipglass. Also I wanted to get the Viva Glam Cyndi lipglass. The lipsticks and eyeshadows in VV are too in-your-face for me to wear :S

After countless hours of staring at blogs however, I decided to remove Bite of an Apple and Strange Potion off my list. Bite of an Apple is too red for my already reddish cheeks, and Strange Potion is too similar to Jazzed lipstick which I own.

I called up the MAC counter on Sunday and asked to put Cyndi, HOD, WW and RIS on hold, which they did but I was told it would only be until Monday night. I couldn't make my way there yesterday, so I called up today to see whether they were still holding them for me - luckily they were!

So today I rocked up to my "local" MAC counter - by "local" I mean its actually 45 minute train ride away (come on what do you expect in Australia) - tonight to pick up my pretties :)

When I got there and swatched away like a madwoman, Bite of an Apple was indeed too red for me and Strange Potion was too similar to Jazzed which I happened to be wearing tonight. WW, although looks like a lovely cherry red in the tube (and on everyone else), screams fuchsia on my lips. Although a pretty colour on its own right I was after a red gloss so I restrained myself from getting WW. I only tried one brush stroke of HOD on my cheek, and it seemed like with a few more sweeps it would be a good natural blush. RIS is such a gorgeous colour, I didn't even try it on my lips!

The sold-out items when I got there: Bite of an Apple, Heartless and all the nail lacquers. I was surprised to see Strange Potion and Violetta were still there, because I thought they would be gone quickly - since they are such gorgeous colours.

There is my rant for the day - out of this huge collection, I managed to only purchase Revenge is Sweet and Her Own Devices + Cyndi lipglass. But with the crazy marked-up prices here, I bet I spent about the same money as most other girls in the US/Canada.

Why I started this blog:

Firstly, my Bookmarks/Favourites tabs were getting too cluttered (from all the stalking). So I figure I will make a blog so I can follow (or legitimately stalk) bloggers instead :)

Secondly, I like to play with (emphasis on PLAY) make-up but only at home. SOMEONE MUST SEE IT! Also so I can keep track what looked bad/semi-acceptable.
Disclaimer- I am clearly an amateur and not particularly good at make-up in general.

Thirdly, I am an epic hoarder of nail polish, especially Chi Chi. Even when they dry out I can't seem to throw them away! So I decided I will provide swatches for my beloved nail polish collection.

Lastly, to make new friends on the interwebz :D As I am a rather antisocial being in real life, I figured making friends on the internet will suffice. SO TALK TO ME DAMNIT.

Thank you for reading my rambling!
